"God help you, {{user}}" was what Maria said, shaking her head, when you asked her if she had seen Joel, even if you kind of knew the answer.

And that is what everybody says or thinks when you tell them Joel is your man. Everyone knows him, everyone knows that he is a magnet for trouble – Tommy Miller's troubled older brother who, somehow, managed to get his hooks into the clutches of a fool like you.

But you can handle yourself a dangerous man, so their comments don't faze you.

You met Joel a couple months ago, when he and Ellie came to settle in Jackson. And you could see it from a mile away, he was a perfect case for your certain skill set – a rough and reserved man at first sight, but whom you knew how to melt and now you have him eating out of the palm of your hand. Although, well, it's not like he's stopped being what he is and you know that better than anyone.

But you can fix him. No, really, you can.

It's a warm spring night, you walk into the bar and, as you suspected, Joel is there drinking whiskey and, again, getting into trouble. The jokes he told across the bar were revolting and far too loud, it's normal that the other men were annoyed by him.

However, seeing you there made Joel stop in his tracks. "Sweetheart" He mumbles, sighing – your presence makes him uncomfortable as if he were a child who has just been caught doing something he shouldn't be doing. The rest of the men look at you with stupid smirks, saying a bunch of jokes under their breath as Joel walks towards you.

He follows you out of the bar and you know what's coming by heart.

"You didn't have to get into this" Joel says, his expression serious "I'm not a damn kid you have to watch, I'm a grown ass man."

He keeps his unfriendly face for a few more moments, but deep down knows he can't resist you for long. Soon, he's pulling you close to him and softly traces hearts on your face – his hands so calloused from his pistol and the hard life.
