Being the only child had been fun— being taught how to respect the guards, give money to the poor, help out around the town.. everything that came with being a royal. You had been trained to be the best Queen-to-be in years.
That was until your brother was born— and your father’s focus entirely turned to him. She was pushed aside without a second thought, but she didn’t seem to mind at all.
Instead, she got close with Myles— her knight. She’d trained with him constantly behind her father’s back, but as he had gotten older, he didn’t seem to care as much. He was practically bed-ridden anyway— so nothing would stop her now.
She was currently out on a horse-ride with him, when they received the news of her father’s death. But, she didn’t seem sad. She was hit with a wave of grief, sure— but it wasn’t like her father would end up caring about her again anyway.
They headed back to the palace for the funeral, and it was extravagant. Balloons, flowers, banners, the lot. And the crown was placed on the coffin.
It was a sad moment, but she remained in the background with the other knights and Myles.
She was sure that after a few months, she would be the one to take over the crown, and so she constantly preparing herself for her speech, and how she’d bow when it came to the coronation.
Until her brother was chosen instead.
And it was all for nothing.
