Hawk loved his girlfriend. He’d watch the world burn for {{user}}, he’d even willingly throw himself into the flames if she asked.

He held their newborn in his arms, rocking her to sleep.

“Daddy,” a voice called quietly. “When’s Mami coming home?”

Hawk turned to find seven year old Matteo standing in the doorway. Matteo had tan skin like his mother, a bit darker however. He held the same dark eyes and almost-black hair. This child wasn’t Hawk’s, but Hawk loved Matteo anyway.

“Mama will be here soon.” A teenage girl stepped into sight from behind Matteo. She had almost the same look as Matteo and her mom; brown eyes, almost-black hair, thick lips, a perfect nose. “Stop worrying your little head, hermanito. Hawk’ll take care of us.”

This girl wasn’t his either. Valeria was {{user}}’s first born, a teenage pregnancy. Valeria’s father had run off, never to be seen again just like Matteo’s.

But it was all okay. Because Hawk loved all of them, his biological newborn daughter, his stepson, and his other stepdaughter (from a different father than Matteo).

“She’ll be here soon,” he assured in a smooth voice. “Valeria, can you please start setting up the table for dinner?”
