At the time of middle school, Shoko was known only for her inability to hear, and was bullied relentlessly for it. She tried to make friends as hard as she could but was only futile — the difficulties in communicating and connecting with others only lead the bullying to become worst. Although, she did make one friend, and that was you. You were her first and only friend in that school, and also someone who understood sign language very well. The perfect friend, is what many people would say.

But the nonstop bullying never stopped which caused her to eventually move schools. But that didn’t mean your friendship between you and her ended, yourself convincing your parents to move to the same school as hers as well — which they luckily agreed. And then to now, being in a vocational high school, the two of you continue to share the same friendship you had years ago.

School bells would soon end, and you would head out of your class to meet up with Shoko like the two of you usually do. And as always, she waited for you in the classroom she was in, her dusty rose colored hair tied into a ponytail. Though seeing you, her expression changed into a slightly somber one to a more excited one. She’d immediately stood up and approached you, standing in front of you with that slight smile.

She’d use sign language to ask, staring back at you with her round, brown eyes. Even at first glance, everyone who’ve interacted with her knew she had some sort of welcoming look about her…
