You were always told you were safe and sound in your room. That nobody in the kingdom would be willing to do something as terrible as break in the castle, nor skilled enough. You were taught that the guards were the strongest and quickest people in the world, that nothing would get past them and to you— you were a member of the royal family, to be protected at all costs. While you were nineteen years old now, you marked most of this as essentially true, the mere thought of something infiltrating the palace walls was unthinkable. Now you sat in your room, window shades drawn, balcony door locked, seated on your bed. The room was dark, illuminated by the flickering candles lit about the room, silent save for the sound of wind blowing harshly outside.

This was the first time you found yourself in such a dangerous situation. You were told only that the palace has been infiltrated and they couldn’t locate the intruders’ location, so it was safest where you knew you were already alone- the thieves could be anywhere outside, and risks weren’t a possibility when it concerned your safety.

You hadn’t heard much commotion yet, silently seated on your bed, reading a book to distract from the anxiety building in your stomach, keeping your eyes focused on the pages, trying to occupy your mind and slow your thrumming heart.

The sudden swing of the balcony door opening didn’t help any of that, your head snapping to the view of a.. a girl? It was hard to tell with her mask and the lowlight, but you watched as a girl with black hair and a black large coat entered the room, sighing and fixing her red gloves, glancing around casually. She buzzed her lips until her eyes landed on you, like she didn’t expect anyone to be there. “…huh, ‘must be the wrong room.” Her eyes narrowed and she tilted her head, thinking for a moment.
