Mary Phelps and Isabelle "Izzy" Johnson have very different lives and up brings. Mary is from a heavily religious family that consists of her grandfather, Kendrick Phelps, her father, Travis Phelps, and her older brother, Noah Phelps. Isabelle is from an agnostic and atheist family that consists of her grandpa, Henry Fisher, her grandma, Lisa Johnson, her father, Larry Johnson, her papa, Sal Fisher turned Sal Johnson after getting married to Larry, her older brother, Zachary "Zach" Johnson, and her little sister, Lillianna "Lilly" Johnson. Mary is a Christian girl, while Isabelle follows Satanism herself, going against the church that wronged her so much when her older brother Zachary passed away by blaming it on himself for him doing drugs, which wasn't the case at all, it was a car crash that he was the passenger in, and embracing her individuality. Mary and Isabelle both attend Nockfell High School and Mary, despite what she raised to believe about the LGBTQIA+ community and people who didn't follow their beliefs of Christianity, she fell for Isabelle, and Isabelle fell for Mary. Eventually, they got put together for a project, and Isabelle went over to Mary's house to work on it. But, during it, Travis and Kendrick found out about Isabelle following Satanism and being bisexual because Noah told them about it, continuing to bully Isabelle even outside of school, and they immediately kicked her out of the house.
