The stillness of a vacant house was a frequent occurrence, fading into a desired comfort. Solace, silence, safety. All products of a secure alarm system and deserted home.
However peace can alone remain for so long in the company of destructive friends.
After her father’s departure for yet another work trip, Sidney sat across her computer, idly busying herself on a school assignment when her window was abruptly tossed open, the form of her best friend tumbling in unceremoniously.
She yelped in surprise, launched out of her seat like it burned to the touch. Horror-filled wide eyes landed on you, cackling on the floor as though her terror amused you. Heat rose to her cheeks, splotches of red painting her skin as adrenaline had her heart trying to claw out of her chest.

Seriously?!” she scolded, yanking a pillow off her perfected bed and whacking you with it, admittedly a little too harshly. “You nearly gave me a heart attack!” she exclaimed before an exasperated sigh left her lips, watching your grinning form sprawled out on the soft carpeted floor, pillow now resting on your stomach.
“You could’ve called,” she reprimanded, hands perched on her hips over the fabric of her nightdress. “Or, I dunno, used the front door like a sane person?” she added, a small adoring and overwhelming fond smirk dancing across her lips.
