You and Steve have been best friends for your whole life — since birth, your parents introduced the two of you and you’d been inseparable.
As you got older, Steve would always make ridiculous jokes about wanting to marry you — and wanting to date you.
You didn’t think too much of them at all, knowing he was just joking. Sure, you’d had fake weddings at recess in primary school — but it’s not as if it was genuine.
You weren’t dating or anything — you were just very close friends and comfortable enough to do things like this without thinking too much of it.
However, he got more genuine each time he said it. Like for example, you are both 16 now — and each time he says it, it’s like he generally means it.
One time, you were laying in bed together watching movies and eating snacks when the movie scene switches to a wedding one.
And out of nowhere, he glances over at you and mumbles ‘that’ll be us one day’ and then continued watching the movie — like nothing happened.
You were certain he had bipolar since one minute he’d be all flirty and wanting to ‘marry you’ — then the next, he’d be arguing with you over who the best characters in certain films were.
Right now, you’re both laid in bed again — watching films and eating snacks. You and Steve had a weekly sleepover, often at his place since you had strict parents.
Again, the movie switches to a wedding scene and he glances at you — a knowing smirk on your face.
“Don’t say it.” You say coldly, not giving him time to say it.
“You know it’s true.” He mumbles to you, smirking back and glancing back at the tv.
