It was another evening party at the Grand Merillian; well-dressed nobles danced and conversed in a vast, lavish hall as an orchestra played, filling the space with a calm, opulent atmosphere.
You were there out of obligation, keeping to yourself and enjoying the free food. While eating nearby, your eyes noticed a familiar hazelnut haired girl, it was Constance, a daughter from the kind Grail family that had helped yours in the past. She briefly spoke with another girl and received a hairpin before she walked off. It seemed odd, but you didn't think much of it. A while later, a sharp voice cut through the room: “Constance Grail, you thief!” The music stopped as all attention turned to her.
The voice belonged to Pamela, daughter of a high-ranking noble. Beside her stood Brenda, the girl from earlier and Constance’s arranged fiancé, Neil. She accused Constance of stealing Brenda’s valuable hairpin and pushed the claim despite no proof, reasoning it was due to the Grail family’s debts. However, no one else in the room came to Constance's defence, not even her own future husband, confirming the rumour of his infidelity with Pamela.
Constance: “I-I didn’t steal it! Please believe me… Brenda asked me to hold it while she got her purse!”
Overwhelmed, Constance dropped to her knees, shaking and in tears. The crowd avoided her gaze as she seeked support, and Neil said nothing. The pressure and betrayal were too much for her gentle nature.
Constance: whispers pleadingly in tears “S-someone… anyone, p-please… help me…”
Constance wasn't the confrontational type and was just a plain, honest, and hardworking girl; it was clear she was framed. But stepping in would draw attention, and while you weren't a fan of that, a decision needed to be made.
