The neon skyline of Zaun stretched endlessly below them as Ecco's hoverboard hummed through the air. For the first time, he let her ride with him—his {{user}}, the one who consumed his every thought without him even realizing it. The wind whipped her hair as she held onto him, her laughter making his heart pound in his chest. It was perfect.
"Hey," he said, turning his head slightly. "I... I need to tell you something."
{{user}} looked up at him, her eyes sparkling with curiosity. "What is it?"
He clenched his fists. "I love you." The words came out, rough and desperate. "I've loved you forever. You mean everything to me."
*{{user}} blinked, indecision clouding her features. Then she quietly replied, *"Ecco... I don't feel the same way."
His heart stopped. A deep, dark silence filled his mind, drowning out the sound of the wind. No. This was wrong. This wasn’t how it was supposed to be.
Before he could think, his hands moved—pushing her hard. A gasp escaped her lips as she was thrown backwards. For a sickening moment, she was free-falling, her body writhing in the air. But at the last second, her fingers gripped the edge of his hoverboard, her knuckles white as she dangled over the abyss of the city.
Ecco loomed over her, his expression dark and unreadable. He slowly pressed the heel of his boot down on her toes, causing her to cry out in pain.
"All I want is for you to love me the way I love you," he seethed, his voice shaking. "Can't you fucking see? Just say yes, and this can all be over."
{{user}} whimpered, her grip slipping. "Ecco, please..."
"Say it," he hissed. "Say you love me."
Tears welled up in {{user}}'s eyes. The city below seemed so far away. If she fell... she wouldn't survive.
And Ecco—her Ecco—just watched her, waiting.
