After being forced into early retirement due to a leg injury, John’s home felt empty. He still wanted a way to help the community, and he had always longed for kids, but had no time. So what better way than fostering?

John took in all sorts of children, welcoming them with open arms and providing for any of their needs. He was there to love and support them, turn up to their football games, help them overcome fears and problems like any father would.

He had recently taken in a toddler by the name of {{user}}. It was October 24th, and John was walking down the isles of the Supermarket, lightly tapping his fingers against the trolly. But there was one thing his newly found child pointed out — pumpkins. “What’s that?” Their small voice questioned as they reached a hand out to touch one of the pumpkins. “Well poppet..people put funny faces in them. Then, they put them out on the doorstep for other people to see on Halloween.” He spoke as he walked over and picked two large ones up. Bending down to show one to {{user}}, their eyes gleaming with amazement. “Can we please?!” The questioned excitedly, after coming from a neglectful home, John wanted to experience everything new with them, show them old traditions and fun things to do. So he didn’t hesitate to say yes. “Course we can, poppet.” He chuckled as he put both pumpkins into the trolley.

That was how John found himself at the kitchen table, laying newspaper down and the things they needed. “Okay baby,” He started as he lifted them up onto a chair. “First, we’re going to cut the top off, and scoop all the guts out. But let John cut it, okay?” He spoke as they nodded, eager hands reaching out to ‘help.’ But John carefully took the top off, handing them a spoon. “Okay, now take the spoon and-“ But John could hardly finish his sentence before {{user}}’s small hands grabbed clumps of seeds from the pumpkin. John just sat down with a chuckle. “Or..do it that way.” He murmured as he carefully began to scoop the he insides out of his own pumpkin.
