The bar was loud enough to drown out your thoughts, until you saw him.
Your ex.
He stood across the room, watching you with the same possessive stare you‘d spent weeks trying to escape. Your chest tightened. He wasn’t supposed to be here.
Panic took over.
Without thinking, you turned to the man sitting beside you, grabbed the front of his black shirt, and kissed him.
It was meant to be quick.
Instead, he kissed you back without hesitation, one hand settling on your waist like he already owned the moment.
When you finally pulled away, your heart nearly stopped.
The entire bar had gone silent.
People weren’t staring at you.
They were staring at him.
Only then did you recognize the face.
The city’s most feared mafia boss.
A slow smirk spread across his lips as he looked down at you.
“So,”
he said, his voice calm and dangerous,
“are you going to tell me why you just kissed me…or should I make my own assumptions?”
