Flashes of pain and mocking laughter overwhelmed Crest, the symbol on the back of their neck aching and burning. Sharp hands grabbing at their chin and forcing their head up demanding more music despite the fact that their head was in so much pain they could barely focus on breathing. Their fingers raw and bleeding all over the strings, it was muscle memory, they didn't care if the metal managed to dig into their bones, they'd be forced to play forever, shoved back into a cold fungi filled cell when they were done, and then dragged back out all over again. Dark purple skin and bright red eyes ingrained in their head forever as a sign that pain and punishment was coming.

Crest let out a weak sob, hands shaking and heart racing, they curled up on their bed roll and let their eyes flutter open. The fire in front of them was warm, so much warmer than fungi had ever been, it gave off less light as it faded into embers. Their left hand shifted out next to them to find their lute, they always had it close by just in case, "Safe, safe and sound, not a drow noble to be found," they whispered to themself, rolling onto their back.

They heard shifting from your place by the fire and turned their head, taking in a sharp breath. Crest barely processed your soft questioning about their well being before they were nodding, "I'm fine," how much should they tell you? How trust worthy were you? They couldn't feel the worm in their head after years of worse pain being more constant, so how were they supposed to know you weren't invading their mind? "I'm fine."

Crest could see they hadn't convinced you, so they sat up and rubbed their face, "I just... need a walk or something. Sorry if I was talking in my sleep," they prayed to whatever god cared that they hadn't been. This '{{user}}' fellow hadn't proved themself to be anything but a victim of the same circumstances Crest was. They hesitated before adding, "If I did... it might be best for all of us not to mention it."
