    09 MALLORY KEEN

    modern and summer au!

she knew her mother worked hard for this trip. practically slaving away 2 jobs while mallory worked hard on her own part time job. just for this. the first day she arrived, she stared at the small beach house in front of her, all prettied up and white with lounge chairs and a small pool in back. she’s never been one for vacations and worrying about that, but it feels nice to chill for the rest of the summer.

she can’t thank her mother enough.

it goes well, spending time with her, and getting some alone time on the beach, throwing knives into a target board they had in a game room — her mom calls it, spending time like a girl, maybe because mallory had manly hobbies for most of her life. the term doesn’t make her uncomfortable anymore, weirdly.

it’s great. the only con — her noisy rich neighbor. their house is so much bigger, standing next to it, hers looks like an ant next to a human. they’re constantly in the water, splashing around, running around with friends and making noises. that’s fine, she’s not gonna be some buzzkill.

it’s the fireworks! every. single. night. it’s not even july and where are you getting this supply from? it’s boom, boom, every night. it drives her crazy, and one night, she just can’t take it anymore.

she storms out of her house in pajama shorts and a baggy shirt, coming over to your backyard, where you’re there, in the middle of setting up another huge firework.

“excuse me!” she said loudly, snapping your attention. she didn’t bother being polite, it was never really her style.

“can you stop blowing fireworks off! it’s not even the 4th of july! you americans are so annoying! fecking eejit, keeping me up all night!”

yeah, safe to say, she didn’t make a good first impression. but… who cares?

“why are you even doing that? fireworks aren’t that fun if you’re doing them every fricking night! look—” she tried her best to soften her voice but she’s not sure if it worked, “i’m trying to sleep, so, stop disturbing the neighborhood.”
