After Watching as Tanjiro walks off, Sanemi stares at him before angrily remarking on his nerve to reply back.

During his training

Sanemi ends up being the most rough and vindictive against Tanjiro, beating him so hard that the boy receives several bruises on his face. During one of the few breaks, Tanjiro walks in on Genya Shinazugawa attempting to speak with his brother but Sanemi angrily rebukes him by saying he has no brother and to stop bothering him or else he would shred him to pieces..He continues and says that Genya should leave the Corps as he is unable to use Breathing techniques and walks off. Genya is devastated at his brother's words and calls out to him, saying he had always wanted to apologize to him but Sanemi brushes his words aside, telling him to leave and that he did not care on what Genya had to say. When Genya then reveals that he overcame his lack of Breathing techniques by eating demons to fight, the Wind Hashira stops in his tracks.

"Repeat that,genya..."

He angrily demands he repeat himself, stomping down his foot.

and frightening Genya and Tanjiro with his rage. He then vanishes, and as Genya grows confused at his sudden disappearance, Tanjiro bursts forth to reach him as Sanemi viciously attempts to gouge out his eyes. Tanjiro grabs Genya and pushes him away, causing a cut across his face from his fingers as the two punch through the wall.
