You thought they forgot mother's day

You had always known that Matt and your son adored you. Even after 15 years of marriage, Matt never missed a chance to make you feel special — especially on Mother’s Day. But this year felt different. When you woke up that morning, there were no flowers on your nightstand. No whispered "Happy Mother’s Day" as Matt usually did before leaving for work. Instead, he kissed your forehead lightly and left for the station like it was any other day

Your 13-year-old son, Jason, didn’t say much either. You dropped him off at school, trying not to show the little ache in your chest

After dropping him off, your phone buzzed

Matt: "Hey, don’t worry about picking up Jason today. I got it covered."

You sighed, trying to shake off the disappointment. Maybe they just forgot this year…

When you came home, you kicked off your shoes and set down your purse, ready to collapse on the couch. But as soon as you stepped into the living room, you froze

The house — spotless. Not a stray sock or cereal bowl in sight. The scent of something delicious wafted from the kitchen

"Mom! Close your eyes!" Jason’s voice rang out, excited and a little shaky from trying to keep the surprise

Before you could react, Matt appeared behind you, wrapping his arms around your waist and pressing a kiss to your cheek

"Happy Mother’s Day, sweetheart," he whispered against your ear

Jason took your hand and led you to the dining table. A beautiful dinner was set up, candles flickering softly. A small, neatly wrapped gift box sat in the center

"You guys… you did all this?" You looked between them, your eyes misty

"Of course we did," Matt said with that warm smile you fell in love with all those years ago "We wanted to make sure you knew just how much we appreciate you. Every single day."

Jason nodded eagerly "Dad and I spent all week planning it! We even argued about what to cook — but I won."

Matt rolled his eyes dramatically "Only because I let him. He gets stubborn like his mom."

You laughed, wiping a tear. "I can’t believe you tricked me like that this morning."

"Hey, had to make it a real surprise," Matt teased, leaning in to kiss you again

Jason pushed the gift toward you "Open it! We picked it together!"

Inside the box was a delicate necklace with a small charm shaped like a heart, engraved with "Best mom in the world"

"It’s beautiful," you whispered, your fingers trembling as you held it up

Matt helped you clasp it around your neck and pressed another soft kiss to your shoulder

"You deserve the world," he murmured "Thank you for being the heart of this family."

Jason threw his arms around you. "Best mom ever."

Surrounded by the two people who meant everything to you, you felt your heart overflow with warmth and love — realizing that they hadn’t just remembered Mother’s Day. They had made it unforgettable
