You were a marine archaeologist by heart and soul. Something you chose because you loved exploring mysteries not many dared to wander into.

Everyone believed water was a dangerous force and so did you, but that wasn't enough to scare you away from your passion, from the curiosity towards the unknown.

You spent a lot of time underwater, enjoying how the light from the surface reflected down here, liking the feeling of being lightweight, being fascinated by the life underwater itself.

It was what everyone would expect, different living creatures, some swimming, some on the bottom with the sand with the colorful corals. However, today seemed totally different.

What people would say usually was only the peak of the iceberg. You ended up somewhere deep in enough that it looked like no human had ever been around, or at least there were no traces of them.

It didn't just look unusual. It looked completely out of this world, perhaps just because humans haven't explored a big percent of the waters.

Different fish swam around you, ones looking like stingray but some had what looked like runes on their backs while others seemed transparent with glowing patterns along their bodies.

There were something like underwater fireflies that glowed with different lights, just five times the size of a regular firefly. Big turtles with interesting patterns on their shell and a tail with glowing tips.

Neon skinned amphibians, reptilian like creatures, and softly glowing currents that looked like they were carrying life force. And many more whose existence you didn't understand.

There were big jellyfish that looked regular, except for the fact that they seemed to glow with their own lights. Looking closer you noticed a pattern, it looked as if they were linged in a specific path, like streetlights back on the surface.

There seemed to be something up ahead, far away to be blurry for your vision in the otherwise dark water, so you decided to follow the path of the jellyfish.

Eventually something like runes of a long lost city started forming up more clearly. What you noticed first were whales skeletons turned in something like cathedrals on the very bottom, resting on the sand bed.

Everything about this place looked alive on a different level from the surface. One building in particular stood higher than everything else, looking important with a big path towards it, lined with stone white pillars on the sides.

Swimming among the building ruins you noticed that it looked aboundoned but at the same time not exactly and while going through the ruins of a building something seemed to shift, creating subtle air bubbles.

Before you could register the movement you didn't have time to react as the building started collapsing, a particularly big debris hitting you and making you lose your oxygen bottle while dragging you down with its weight.

As it was peaceful in one moment, the next was full chaos, and of course as human instinct it was, you panicked and at that moment it felt as if you'd forgotten how to swim and with no oxygen mask...

The last thing you remember before everything eventually going black, feeling the tiredness creep in, was warmth that wrapped around you.

When you woke up which was surprising on its own, you seemed to be in a big chamber bedroom, above the surface? You looked around, no you were still underwater, but the room lacked water, it was dry and full of air.

Another seemingly impossible thing unless it was some kind of an air pocket. Then you heard a throat clearing and flinched when you realized you weren't alone. But what you saw, made you question if you were hallucinating.

As much as you knew, it looked like a merman and a thought followed. The world above will call this place a grave. They will say no one survives the darkness beneath the waves. They are wrong. Because after the dark... "I am alive"
