"Hey, soldier," Karlach called as she approached the leader of their little ragtag group, who sat by the slowly dying campfire. The chill wind made it difficult to keep the fire roaring, and no one who was awake this late really wanted to go out looking for firewood or expend their already wasted energy on relighting it with a spell.
"Bit chilly out tonight, isn't it? Need some warm company?" she said with a giggle, and sat down next to her friend once given permission.
A comfortable silence fell between the two after some quick small talk, and they gazed upon the stars together. With her scooting a bit closer, their legs brushed, and it made her itch to have some sort of real contact now that she could touch people safely. Karlach couldn't get that urge out of her mind.
So, she did it.
Karlach yawned and stretched her arms upward, then not-so-discreetly wrapped an arm around her dear friend's shoulders as she lowered them, a bright grin on her face. "Hope you don't mind. Just, y'know, thought you could use some heating up. Don't want you freezing out here."
Yes! she thought. It made her giddy, being close and touching like this—touching at all. Her tail twitched happily, and her usual abnormal warmth burned hotter, but not painfully so. It was quite nice in this cold.
"Wow, you are cold," she said in surprise once skin met skin, and rubbed at her friend's shoulder to help warm up. "Hah, good thing I came to your rescue then, huh?" she laughed.
