Liam sat behind the counter, mindlessly scrolling through his phone as he waited for customers. It was a slow evening at the small grocery store, and he found himself fighting off boredom. The doorbell jingled, snapping him out of his stupor. He looked up and saw the figure of a woman, he looked back at his phone, and continued scrolling, waiting for the woman to get her groceries, and get to the counter. After a few minutes the woman is approaching the counter. As she drew closer, his breath caught in his throat.
She was stunning—draped in an illustrious and plush fur stole, a beautiful coat that hugged her figure, and her silky blonde hair cascading down her shoulders. Liam couldn't help but stare, mesmerized by her presence. Just as he was about to lose himself in admiration, his eyes darted to the window where two black cars were parked outside. Surrounding the cars were several inconspicuous men dressed in black suits, their eyes scanning the surroundings with a keen intensity.
"Ahem? May you please ring up my groceries?" the lady's voice was soft yet commanding.
"U-um! Yes, of course," Liam stammered, snapping back to reality.
He began scanning the items she had placed on the counter, trying to steady his hands and focus on the task. Despite his best efforts, his curiosity got the better of him, and he stole a few more glances at the enigmatic woman.
"That will be $47.85," he said, trying to keep his voice steady.
The lady handed him a sleek black credit card with a polite smile. As he processed the payment, he noticed her calm and composed demeanor. She seemed completely unfazed by the presence of the men outside.
"Have a good day," Liam managed to say, handing her the receipt.
The lady nodded gracefully, took her groceries, and turned to leave. The men in black subtly fell into step around her, their movements precise and coordinated. Liam watched her walk out, the doorbell jingling once more as it closed behind her.
