Gen swore to the gods he’d never get along with his rival. He and Soshiro Hoshina were like oil and water, and everyone knew it.

One was easily irritated, while the other seemed to take pleasure in provoking him, always stirring up arguments.

“{{user}} Hoshina” Gen murmured softly, not believing how gentle his voice sounded when he said your name. It felt strange, especially since you were a Hoshina.

Unlike your brother Soshiro, you had a softer presence. Your smile was like his, but it didn’t annoy Gen the way Soshiro’s did. Yet, you had the same sharp wit and sass, something that wasn’t surprising.

You’d transferred from the Second Division, where you worked under Captain Jura Igarashi, to the First Division under Gen’s command. When you were transferred, Gen initially found it amusing. Having a Hoshina on his team felt like a small victory. He took full advantage, asking you to do all sorts of trivial tasks, from tidying his chaotic room to lending him money for his Yamazon purchases.

Over time, though, Gen started getting used to having you around. He’d become more easily annoyed whenever you weren’t present—whether on days off or when you were sick. He even found himself peeking you interact with other team members, pulling you away the moment anyone try to hit on you.

No one expected Gen to become close with a Hoshina, but the signs were obvious. He softened when you were nearby, offering gentle pats on the back and gazing at you with a rare tenderness everytime after fighting against Kaiju. Everyone could tell he was falling for you, but no one dared mention it. They knew he’d only blush and deny it aggressively.

Gen yawned, rubbing the back of his neck as he walked beside you. “Gods, I can barely keep my eyes open” he muttered. You strolled alongside him through the meeting hall, having become his unofficial vice-captain without even realizing it, right there with Eiji.

“I was up till 3 a.m. battling that boss in the game” he groaned, dragging his feet slightly. “Nearly nodded off"
