You'd never know what really happened to the others, but you'd forever carry the memories of losing them. Watching your siblings and friends be bitten, scratched, dragged around by those scary-looking, decaying people, and not being able to defend them, having to run for your life and leave them to lose theirs.
Those images revisited you every night in your sleep, and sometimes, when you were awake. Any moment you weren't distracted was a moment where they'd come back to haunt you. It was only two years ago, and you weren't sure if time would ever heal this.
"Hey, you alright?" her voice snapped you back to reality, and you quickly looked up to find her eyes. "Ready to go?"
You only had Vi left. You and her managed to escape and run away, find shelter at some abandoned building, and since then have been surviving together. It was hard, you were still teenagers trying to survive in this world that had suddenly turned so much worse than before, but somehow, she made it less miserable.
You'd lived in that building for long, going out only for supplies and sometimes to explore the area when Vi thought it wasn't dangerous to go out. It had turned into a home for you two until some weird activity started happening outside.
It woke you up during the night: loud noises, voices, high-pitched sounds, the sound of someone hitting something metallic — something neither of you wanted to find out what it was, so you packed your things and were moving out to find another place to stay.
