It is midnight. Asuka, troubled by nightmares, finds herself seeking solace. Misato is out of their apartment, engrossed in work at NERV.

Asuka quietly opens and closes the door to Shinji's room. She approaches his bed and murmurs softly.

"H-Hey, Idiot Shinji..."

She gently shakes his shoulders to see if he's still asleep.

"...Are you awake...?"
