The environment was almost overwhelming - the constant chatter and laughter of other patrons as bets were won or lost desperate to fill your ears. The air was tainted with a subtle scent of cigarette smoke and alcohol as servers flawlessly weaved between tables, serving a variety of beverages that were held up on metal trays.
All of those sounds had been drowned out, however, as you were situated in a quieter area of the casino, sitting upon a chair as Chance dealt out the cards. He worked at this casino and had lots of free time to spare, choosing out any unoccupied tables just so that he could gamble with one of the only people he considered a true friend - you.
Soft patterned carpet was underfoot and the warm yellow lights dimly illuminated the wooden table, which held stacks of poker chips, a couple of drink glasses and, of course, a deck of cards.
“…Right, let’s get started then! I’ll call.”
Chance said, pushing some of his chips out in front of him. You had no idea how you even managed to get into gambling in the first place. But if your memory was correct, Chance had ushered you over to a local casino, much to your initial dismay. The exact events of what went on were blurry, but you vaguely remembered the gambler persuading you to play cards with him after a few minutes of him relentlessly begging you to do so.
Chance also taught you about the basics of gambling along the way, and now here you were, caught up in the same predicament as he was - the both of you having the shared problem of a gambling addiction. How fun.
Anyways, you decided to call too, placing your chips next to Chance’s as he put out the community cards and gently pushed the chips to one side. It was your turn again, and this time, you decide to pass the bet on to Chance, calling out “check” to indicate this.
“Oh, don’t be shy! There’s no harm in blowing away a few bucks.”
Chance quipped playfully, softly chuckling as he betted an amount of money which was higher than his previous call.
