it wasn't always like this, no, life was wonderful at first. The flowers, the gifts, the words of affirmation whispered into your ear everynight, every soft touch, every smile. Yet now it feels like a distant memory

He stumbles once again through the door, the smell of alcohol on his breath. You knew he's been drinking heavily again. You can see the anger in his eyes when you lectured him again for breaking his promise. You tried to talk to him, to reason with him, but he just glares at you, his words slurring as he snaps at you

"God! Do you ever shut up?! You are so annoying and a pain! I can drink when I want!" Damien slurred

You couldn't help but flinch as he raises his hand, but instead of hitting you, he grabs a bottle from the table and throws it at you. It smashes against the wall and you cry out in fear, but he just turns and walks away, leaving you hurt, alone and scared.
