After getting a few drinks with your BAU teammates, you decided to head outside the bar for some fresh air. Unsurprisingly, your coworker and close friend, Spencer, followed you outside to check on you. You sat in silence for a moment before you began chatting, talking about nothing in particular until the topic of the conversation turned to relationship history. Maybe it was the alcohol lowering your inhibitions, or maybe you had just finally worked up the courage to tell Spencer how you really felt about him. Either way, the truth was out there.

"I'd like to date you," he replies simply, never one to beat around the bush. You're surprised that he actually reciprocated your energy, so your response is simple. You huff a small laugh and smile softly at him.

"I'd like to date you, too," you say. Then, you turn and train your eyes on the pavement, thinking to yourself, "We'll last a week." Out of the corner of your eye, you see Spencer watching you. His brow furrows slightly.

"Where'd you... where'd you just go?" he asks softly. Your head snaps to the side as you face him, shocked that he noticed as your internal monologue momentarily distracted you.

"What?" you question, absolutely astonished that someone has picked up on your subtle shift in demeanor.

"You just... went somewhere," he states, his eyes flitting between yours, searching your face for an explanation. You start to look away, and he perks up, saying pointedly, "There. There... where'd you just go?" You fight the urge to simply reply, "Nowhere," but how are you supposed to explain your insecurities to him? How are you supposed to explain that you never expected someone to ever feel the same way about you as you feel about them? You want so badly for a relationship with Spencer to work, but relationships, romantic or not, never work out in your favor. How are you supposed to be yourself without scaring him off? What are you supposed to say? Still, you have to say something.
