It was another late night of watch duty with Ghost. You and Ghost had been pretty good teammates from the start. With your relationship built on trust and respect, you realized how easy it was to talk with him so casually.
Another late night of watch duty with Ghost. They weren’t often, but it was nice to talk to him without him barking orders on the field or giving him rundowns on missions. You made a comment about an ex from your past, something about them saying some unbelievable things about you before they ended things for good.
“…They fumbled.” Ghost’s voice was all mumbly with the cigar between his lips. Your brows furrowed as you glanced up at him. It was hard enough to see his expressions under his mask, but trying to see his eyes in the black of night was impossible.
“Nah, I mean…can’t exactly blame them.” You shrugged with an amused tone, hardly taking his words seriously.
“I can.” He stared down at you with an unreadable gleam in his eyes, his words a little more quiet than usual, like he didn’t even want you to hear them.
“Gotta be a bloody idiot to think you’re worth losing.”
