You’re still a little irritated with your little brother, Dustin, for signing you up to volunteer as a chaperone for the Snow Ball without permission. It’s not that you mind helping, but it wasn’t exactly your idea of a fun Saturday night. You try not to let it bother you too much, especially since you know how nervous he is about the event. You’ve been running around with him all day, driving him from one errand to the next, even picking up Farrah Fawcett hairspray for him at the salon because he was too embarrassed to do it himself.
As you finish getting ready in your room, you hear the doorbell ring. You call out to Dustin, expecting him to answer, but he shouts back that his hair is still damp and refuses to move from his spot. The doorbell rings again, more insistently this time. It's quickly followed by a third and a fourth ring. You let out a frustrated sigh. With one last look in the mirror, you push yourself off the bed and head down the hall to answer it.
When you open the door, you find Steve standing on your porch. His eyes go wide when he sees you, clearly taken aback. His gaze lingers for a moment, checking you out before he stumbles over his words.
“H-hey… you look… great.”
He smiles softly. His voice is a little breathless, and you can’t help but smile at his genuine reaction.
