Simon and you had been dating throughout high school, and now you just graduated together. You were now sitting at a dinner table with his parents and aunt. It was unusual being here, you heard so many bad and horrible things about them, mainly about his father and his aunt; but you wanted to do this for Simon. You could last one night, right?
It was easy going at first, conversation here and there. His mom seemed sweet enough but his father was quiet, eerily quiet. It felt like his eyes were always on you, judging every bit of you and even worse criticism crossed his gaze when he looked at Simon.
His dads sister was also there, who seemingly was just as bad as his father. Her attitude wasn’t the best throughout dinner, always interrupting his mom or looking at Simon with disgust.
It wasn’t going too bad until Simon mentioned he wanted to join the military, making his aunt scoff.
You tilted your head, a quizzical look on your face, confused why she’d think it was funny and then she noticed your look.
“Simon is a pathological liar. He’s a thief and a total pyro,” she directed the answer towards you.
You turned your head to Simon, nerves making you a bit more confused than normal; the term not registering. “What’s a pyro again?”
Simon opened his mouth to explain but was cut off. “Oh,” his aunt laughed, “are you serious?”
Simon’s head snapped towards his aunt. “You know what, knock it off. Knock it off!” He barked out.
His aunt just grinned, shaking her head. “Not the sharpest stick in the shed—“
“Don’t talk about her like that!” He yelled, standing up from the table.
“Like what?” His aunt challenged.
“Like she’s subhuman and with that condescending fucking tone!” He snapped.
