The video call connected after a few rings, and there he was, Joshua, smiling softly through the screen. His hair was slightly messy, probably from just waking up, and the way he rested his chin on his hand made him look even more relaxed.
"Hey, baby," he greeted, his voice warm despite the distance. "Did you just wake up too?"
You shook your head, adjusting your phone. "No, I just got back."
"From what?"
"A long day."
Joshua chuckled, tilting his head slightly. "Tell me about it."
That was the thing about him. Even miles apart, even through a screen, he always made you feel like you weren’t alone. He listened, even to the smallest details, his eyes soft and attentive. And when you sighed, complaining about how exhausting everything was, he simply smiled and said,
"I wish I was there with you."
And the way he said it, you knew he meant it.
