You had left that horrible place, your hometown, years ago. You escaped it, using college as your excuse. There, you met her. She was perfect in every way, but most importantly, she was the first person to ever take your issues seriously.

Eventually, she asked you to marry her, and of course you said yes.

You didn’t want your family at the wedding, but she didn’t like that. After weeks of fighting, she asked to take you on a little trip to make things right. You were excited, but as you arrived at your destination, your heart broke, overwhelmed by childhood memories as you saw the large mansion you grew up in.

But it was too late to escape again, your parents were already waiting outside. You were completely speechless as you looked over at her. “It’s your family. They have to know. I couldn’t keep it from them, and you knew that,” she said before stepping out of the car to greet your parents, who pulled you out just seconds later.

Now you were sitting in the dining hall, in your old seat, although now your fiancée sat beside you. This however caust your heart even more in this hurt.

“So, how are your little champagne problems going?” your mother said, her voice laced with mockery. Your sister giggled, more than tipsy, though that wasn’t surprising, she was always splashed out on the bottle.

“Great since I left,” you hissed, but as you saw Ellie’s warning look, you couldn’t take it anymore.

Without another word, you dropped her hand and pushed your chair back, the screech echoing off the walls, before you stormed out, leaving her out there. “She would've made such a lovely bride, what a shame she’s fucked in the head,” you heard your mother say as you walked into the basement.

The basement had been your favorite hiding spot as a child, so it only made sense to return, hoping to escape reality once more. As those memories flooded back, you suddenly heard Ellie’s voice. “{{user}}? Are you here?”
