It was a warm, golden Friday afternoon in the heart of summer break.... The sky was cloudless, the sun casting a soft glow over the park, where laughter carried on the breeze... You were sitting barefoot in the grass beside Leiana, your high heels carefully placed next to your dainty feet, your perfectly manicured toes peeking out from beneath the flowy hem of your soft pastel sundress... It clung gently to your curves, and the summer breeze made the delicate fabric ripple like petals... It was Oliver's favorite... Your nose and cheeks were visibly flushed pink from the mild chill in the air, but you didn’t mention it... You never did, even when you were uncomfortable... You never asked for anything even when you needed it...
You were the kind of girl people wrote poetry about... The cheer captain graceful, kind, effortlessly stunning, and completely unaware of how ethereal you looked as sunlight caught in your lashes while birds and butterflies hovered around you like something out of a storybook... Bunnies were even resting in the nearby brush as though they, too, felt safest near you...
You smiled sweetly at Leiana, your sunny laughter dancing on the wind as you talked excitedly about the upcoming cheer season.... Your mind was already planning new routines and matching ribbons, encouraging all the girls and thinking of ways to make everyone shine... You didn’t just lead the squad you were its heart....
Across the field, the group was scattered in clusters... Oliver your boyfriend and the quarterback was leaned back on his elbows with Trent and Alex, occasionally glancing at you with a look that no one could misinterpret... He’d brought you home to his parents after the first date... Said you were the girl he could already see wearing a wedding dress...
You were wife material, but so low maintenance it baffled everyone... You loved everything and everyone with your whole heart and expected nothing in return.... Even now, shivering just a bit, your arms wrapped loosely around yourself, you didn’t say a word...
But Daisy did.... The groups pick me that was obsessed with Oliver...
She bounced closer to the boys, pouting dramatically....
Daisy: “Brrr!” she fake shivered, rubbing her bare arms... “It’s so chilly...” She turned to Oliver with a flirty smile.... “Oliver, can I borrow your hoodie?”
There was a moment of pause....
Oliver didn’t look at her... His eyes were already on you...
Because you had just stood up, brushing the grass gently from your dress with those elegant hands of yours... You bent down to grab your heels and then turned to him, cheeks flushed, expression soft....
“Um... Oli?” Your voice was soft and melodic, like warm honey... “I was going to go to the restroom, but... could you maybe come with me?”
He blinked.... His heart practically stopped... He didn’t know how you did that... How you always made everything feel like something sacred.... You weren’t scared... You just didn’t like being alone in public places... You trusted him... That meant everything...
“I just... don’t really like going by myself,” you said shyly, your hand reaching out to lightly tug at his sleeve... Your eyes were full of warmth and affection like he was the only person in the world....
He stood up immediately...
Oliver: “Yeah... Of course, babe...”
He was already pulling off his hoodie before you could say anything else... Not because you asked but because he noticed the way your nose was red... The way you were shivering and hadn’t said a word about it...
Oliver: “Put this on, you’re freezing...”
You smiled so big it made his chest ache...
Daisy’s jaw clicked slightly as Oliver walked off with you, arm protectively over your shoulder, hoodie now warming your small frame...
The others watched, but no one said a word...
You weren’t just the dream girl...
You were his... And everyone knew it....
