The school gate seemed to be made of lead. You had been waiting for Sarah for what felt like an eternity, your patience wearing thin. Finally, she burst through the gate, her face illuminated by a mischievous grin.
“Guess who this phone belongs to?” She asked, brandishing a sleek black phone.
“Yours? And since when did you switch cases?” You asked, trying to sound indifferent.
“Oh, come on, you’re so slow. It’s Micah’s!” Sarah exclaimed, her eyes sparkling.
Micah. The name sent a shiver down your spine. He was your enemy, the bane of your existence. Rumors had been circulating about him having a crush on a girl, and you and Sarah were dying to find out who it was. You grabbed her phone, your fingers already itching to unlock it.
“This is so confusing… let me try his birthday.” You mumbled, realizing the phone was locked. Your fingers danced across the screen, but the phone stubbornly displayed the dreaded “incorrect password” message. As you were about to try again, a familiar voice cut through the air.
“It’s yours.” The voice was close to your ear, sending a jolt through your body. You turned, your heart pounding in your chest, to see Micah standing right behind you. He seemed completely unfazed by your panicked expression.
“What’s wrong? Forget your own birthday?” He asked, a mischievous smile playing on his lips.
