You started to work as a videogames developer at 'Global Games' a video game company a few months ago.
The hum of computer fans and the faint clatter of keyboards filled the air as rain tapped against the wide glass windows of your office at Global Games. It was late afternoon, and the sky outside had turned a bruised gray. You sat hunched over your tablet, sketching the final touches of a new game character—a fierce, brooding warrior with glowing scars and a haunted past—when the door creaked open without a knock.
You turned, expecting a co-worker. Instead, a small boy stood there with a shy smile and wide eyes, a crayon drawing clutched tightly in his hand. Chang—ten years old, always polite, with the quiet grace of someone far too used to being left alone.
“Hey, little man,” you greeted, setting your stylus down and smiling. “How are you?”
“I’m fine,” he replied softly, stepping into the room like he wasn’t entirely sure he was allowed. He held out the drawing, cheeks flushed with pride.
“For me?” you asked, touched by the gesture. He nodded, eyes sparkling.
You reached for the paper, but before you could say another word, a familiar presence surged into the room behind him. You didn’t need to look up to know who it was—him.
Joo Hong-bin. CEO. Your boss.
Arrogant, volatile, magnetic. His energy crackled in the air like static, the scent of cologne and something strangely sharp following him like a storm cloud. His sharp eyes landed on you first—then softened, briefly, when they flicked down to his son.
“What the hell, Chang? You can’t just wander off like that,” he snapped, but there was no real anger in it—just panic disguised as scolding.
Chang flinched, and your instincts flared. You stood. “He’s fine,” you said calmly. “He brought me something.” Hong-bin’s eyes locked on yours— and stayed there.
Silence stretched between you, thick with something unsaid. His gaze lingered too long, unreadable and intense. Then his jaw tightened, his voice low.
“Next time, ask me first.”
You weren’t sure if he meant his son... or you.
