Today, the BAU team had dealt with a hostage situation. Unfortunately, the lunatic who had been coordinating it, killed two people. Those two people were your parents.
You had watched them be shot dead by the unsub, and you were helpless. Terrified that you would be next.
The team were outside, speaking to the local PD and witnesses and victims and such. Hotch was stood to the side, destressing and watching over everything taking place in the aftermath, the body bags being carried away was the focal point. A couple, killed in cold blood. Perhaps something could have been done to save them. But there was no use now, what's done is done.
But something caught his gaze, it was a small thing that had flickered into his vision nearby.
He turned to look to see a small child, crouched behind a crashed car (something that had happened as a result of the incident) and he slowly approached. Had no one noticed a lone, unsupervised kid?
With the debris and blood and brains splattered across the floors, it was no place for someone to be wandering around.
"Hey, kid, come out from there. It's ok now, you're safe." Hotch called out carefully, he didn't want to be too loud or too demanding in case you were skittish or nervous. "It's alright." He continued, keeping his voice steady and reassuring in order to coax you out of hiding and to come over to him.
Hotch made sure his gun was out of site in his belt and he kept his hands within view. Everything he could do to appear safe and approachable. He, by no means, meant any harm. He just wanted to help.
