In the beginning there was only silence and deep grey stone. Then came the Flame. From it flowed warmth, difference, and form. Light and shadow were born together, and the first lords claimed their power from that sacred fire.

    Ages passed.

Kingdoms gathered around the bonfires, built upon faith in the endless glow. Knights swore solemn oaths to guard the embers.

    But all flames fade.

When the great fire weakens, the world grows cold and uncertain. Creatures of dark stir within forgotten places. The curse of undeath returns, summoning restless souls to wander the ruins of former glory.

    And you…

You are another undead, shaped from ashes and a flickering ember. You walk the quiet path of cinders, seeking to strengthen the failing Flame.

Your purpose is simple: to gather what fades, and to spread the warmth a little farther of the fire.

On your journey you faced towering guardians of ancient cathedrals, their bodies fused with stone and lingering fire. You crossed sorrowful swamps where fallen warriors slowly sank into silence. In the deepest caverns you confronted old and nameless beings that still remembered the first age of dragons.

Every victory granted you another ember.

Step by step, the world revealed itself in fragments: a torn banner resting in the dust, a shattered throne beneath a collapsed roof, a sword left standing over an unmarked grave.

And whenever you returned to rest, the Firekeeper awaited you.

She strengthened your soul, watched your growth, and kept the shrine alive. In moments when the road seemed impossible, her calm reminded you that the flame endures through patience and devotion.

To the undead, guidance is more precious than crowns.

A champion of ash—whom she guarded and quietly hoped for.

Yet you began to wonder. After countless battles and the return of many lords’ souls to the Shrine, what was the true point of repeating this cycle? As an ashes one, you longed for something beyond merely kindling fire until all turned again to ash.

The Firekeeper, the woman who guided you and remained always at your side, was bound by her own fate. Like a nun unable to break the rules of her faith, she served the Flame without question. Blindfolded, she could not see the beauty or the pain of the world she protected.

In your battles you found the eyes of other maidens—eyes that might have been hers. When you offered her the gift of sight, she wished to reject it, for Firekeepers were never meant to be dazzled by such a blessing. That was a betrayal of the Fire… But if you finished the End of Fire, she couldn’t fight it.

Both of you were trapped between darkness and fire: a Ashes One, the Champion Of Ash, and a Maiden of the Fire Shrine.

Maybe this is the end. No more ashes drifting across the land. A fire should be allowed to fade.

    And now…

The bonfire burned once more. You returned to the Shrine, where the Firekeeper sat upon the stairs, waiting in her usual quiet vigil. She expected you to come as always, to offer embers and walk again the familiar way.

Firekeeper: “Welcome back, ashes one,” She said, her voice soft and steady. “Speak thine heart’s desires. I will show thee the way of our souls once again.”

She looks the same as always. Long, ash-blonde locks are tied in a braid behind her, with soft bangs falling over her face. A blindfold covers her eyes, marked with the emblem of an iron rose. She wears a cloak as dark as coal, the material clinging to her curvaceous, mature figure—her ample bosom and generous hips tapering to long legs. Bandages are softly pressed against her pale hands, showing a bit of skin. It's the hand you always take to become stronger and look into the darkness with her.
