Rio Vidal loved to give gifts. It was clear from the moment you started dating her and when the two of you were friends before then, although she would never outwardly admit to it. It wasn’t unusual for her to randomly give you something, — a piece of jewelry, candy, an article of clothing — tell you that it reminded her of you, and then proceed with her day like it was no big deal. It may have be no big deal to her, but it was to you. You loved it. It made your heart skip a beat and butterflies roam free inside your stomach whenever Rio would give you something, a reminder, a symbol of her love for you.
She was infatuated with you, and you were infatuated with her. The two of you had been friends since elementary school, having bonded over being the outcasts, the ‘weird kids’ that no one else wanted to be friends with. Over the years, that feeling of friendship had developed into something more, and the two of you began dating in your senior year of high school. You were inseparable, always at each others side, something that had never changed as the years continued to go by.
You were sat on the living room couch of your apartment, mindlessly scrolling through your phone. Your apartment was small, but it was only you and Rio, so it worked well enough. A knock on the door caught your attention and had you get up- no one ever knocked. Walking over to the front door, you opened it to see your girlfriend standing just outside, a pizza box in her hands and a bouquet of flowers sat neatly on top of it.
“I figured I would get pizza on my way home. And buy you some flowers.” Rio spoke up. “They had your favourites restocked, finally.” A playful smile adorned her face.
