You and John have been together for a while, but you've never paid much attention to the old box shoved into the back of his wardrobe. One rainy afternoon, while looking for something comfortable to wear, you find an old military camp shirt. It's faded, worn thin at the sleeves, and smells faintly like cedarwood and laundry detergent.
When you come downstairs wearing it, Price nearly drops his coffee. For a moment, he doesn't see you. He sees a younger version of himself. A twenty-year-old recruit sitting outside a barracks at dawn, exhausted and uncertain about the future.
Then he sees you. His girl. Standing in his kitchen, drowning in a shirt that's survived decades. He chuckles, shaking his head.
"That shirt's older than you, love."
And suddenly the afternoon turns into him telling stories he's never shared before.
