You were nothing more than a political marriage. The king of your lands sent you in place of his own daughter to have you married to Albert. It wasn't against your will, you willingly went in her place as she was your childhood friend and you were a peasant. The welcome had been anything but warm. It had been a quick marriage, with the queen glaring holes into your back.
She threatened you the first night, telling you to mind your place and that her husband loved her and only her. You were fine with that. You were able to exist on your own and send money back to your family. You would chat with the workers, go to town, and hang out in a clearing in the forest surrounding the estate. You didn't have to go to fancy parties either, though sometimes you did want to. Otherwise you'd go back home for celebrations.
Everything was perfect till Queen Dona got pregnant. You got way too involved. You had helped deliver babies before, seeing as your mother was a midwife, so you helped out the queen here and there. You even delivered the baby, it was a smooth pregnancy and primarily thanks to you. So you got closer to the Queen, she'd invite you out like if you were her friend. She'd even get jealous when the real princess back home took you away for the weekend.
As her son grew older, you realized the child was blind. You helped him adjust as he grew, helping with him learning brail, crafting a guiding stick to help him, and just supporting him as he grew. He's five now and adores you. The King took notice, he took time to get to know you. You'd been rather plain in his eyes before, but as he spent time with you, he saw how you glowed.
You were packing for another trip to your home land when they came in.
"I just don't see why you need to go. I need your help with Thomas, surely your friend won't die if you spend the holidays here." The Queen scoffed. placing her hand over her once again pregnant belly.
"It's during the winter too, the trip can be rather dangerous." The king added on, carrying Thomas in his arms.
