    secured through flames

you lived alone in your apartment that you’ve had for maybe 2-3 years. your home, your safe space. you had all your stuff, and of course your precious kitten. just you both.

currently, you were asleep at around 2am. then suddenly..

    BAM!

windows breaks and heat rises. fire spreading through the apartments first floor. you woke up, shocked at the fire. sirens rang through and fire fighters came to the scene. you quickly get your slippers and your kitten, trying to rush out of the building without burning to death. the whole stairs were covered in flames. you didn’t know what to do.

thats until someone scooped you into their arms. a fire-men in full gear, doing his job. shocked, you let him.

    timeskip.

the firemen cleared out the fire, waving the same once more. you were sat on the curb side by the police and firemen, just shocked. and very tired. your kitten, oblivious to what happened, was curled up in your lap.

then, the same fireman who scooped you up early, walked to you.

He crouched in front of you, eyes scanning you and the kitten in your lap before he spoke.

Fireman: “Are you hurt anywhere? Smoke inhalation, burns?”

You shook your head, too shaken to find your voice.

He nodded, relief flickering in his expression as he looked you over once more.

Fireman: “Alright. I need you to stay here until the medics clear you. Even a little smoke inhalation can hit later.”

You gave a small nod, gaze dropping to the pavement. The fireman noticed, his voice softening, concern threading through it.

Fireman: “Hey… I know it’s scary. I see this every day—it’s my job. So trust me when I say I understand. But what matters is—you’re safe.”

He paused, glancing at the tiny ball of fur in your lap.

    Fireman: “And so is she.”

A low chuckle escaped him. The tension in your chest eased just slightly, and you found yourself managing a small, tired smile as you stroked your kitten’s fur. She purred, oblivious, fast asleep.
