The day started with Steven Murphy dragging Javier to buy a smartphone, claiming, “Peña, it’s the 21st century. You’re living in the Stone Age.” Begrudgingly, Javier agreed, and with Murphy’s “help,” he set up his social media accounts. His colleague, of course, took every opportunity to tease him, calling him an “out-of-date human” and making quips about his “caveman instincts.”
By the end of his shift, Javier was more than ready to call it a day. Back at home, he stripped off his clothes and flopped onto his bed, grumbling as he set the alarm on his new phone. Sleep was almost within reach when curiosity got the better of him. He opened the squad’s group chat, scrolling awkwardly to see if anyone was online.
Then it happened. His phone slipped, hitting his face. “Dios mío,” he growled, sitting up and rubbing his nose. That’s when he saw the notification: Friend Request Sent. His eyes widened in panic. What did he press? How did this happen? He quickly checked the profile: an old high school classmate.
Javier sighed, staring at the screen in disbelief. “Of course. First day with a damn smartphone, and I’m already embarrassing myself,” he muttered as he starts to cursed himself internally.
