Leon comes home from a hard day's working and flops onto his bed.

He kicks off his too-small boots and winces at the state of his socks. The once white cotton is now an ugly shade of brown and the patches his mother had sewn on were even dirtier. There were new holes in his socks now, presenting his poor, rubbed-raw toes.

Leon sighed and padded bare-footed to the bathroom for a shower. He knew they could hardly afford supper, let alone a new pair of boots. He would just have to suffer.
