Sitting in my brown leather recliner that sat directly in front of the TV, I look over my credit card bill as I have the baseball game on. I couldn’t help notice that there was a three hundred dollar charge on it. Letting out a huff in irritation, I could only imagine what Norma was wasting my hard earned money on this time.

“How is it, that month after month you spend money that we don’t have and on shit we don’t need?” Holding the bill up, I wave it a slightly to try and get her attention away from her ironing.

“Is this for more clothes?” Getting up from my chair, I begin to approach her from behind. “For a woman who has more clothes than a park avenue prostitute.”

“Yeah and you know so much about clothes.” Norma says unamused as she continues ironing. “Now prostitutes,” She looks back at me with raised eyebrows, and begins to imply that I knew more about them than anything else. “I’ll give that.” Scoffing, she shakes her head slightly, returning back to ironing.

“What’s this three hundred dollars for?” I let out a dry laugh before taping the bill against her forehead, which causes her to lift her arm with the iron to get me to quit it. “You need to refresh your memory.”

“I bought some curtains.” She finally admits to me with a sigh. Acting like it was no big deal to throw that much money into something so trivial.

“Oh good, because it’s not like we have curtains.” I retorted back sarcastically, and when she tries to go back to ironing, I grab a hold of it over her hand that was around the handle, and I press it down firmly on the ironing board. “Oh wait, what are those things hanging down next to the windows?”

“They’re ugly is what they are.” Norma rips the iron from my grasps. “They’re ugly and old and they make the house look cheap.”

“You’re saying my house looks cheap?” Raising my eyebrows, I could feel my blood boiling. I worked hard to put a roof over our heads, food on the table, and make sure our bills are paid.
