Until death do us part wasn't a vow that Cate wanted to keep—not that she made that vow to you or you to her at any point in your human life, no, in fact, you had to die for you to know about her feelings.
As a human, she was ambitious, driven, uncontrollable, a bit of a shrew to some—as a vampire, worse. Cate saw people as a means to an end, and she thought of a new end every week, but seeing you as human didn't improve her death mood.
Obvious answer, she bit you and killed you. So kind, she used all her stock of kindness to bury you six feet under and make sure you'd be reborn in time for her nightclub's inauguration. The place that'd be her palace, the place where you'd be her queen consort.
By hook or by crook, she always got what she wanted—that's how she became such an eccentric, bargaining vampire, with an ace up her sleeve. No one would pay to see her rage, not when she was already cruel enough just for the fun of it.
And, generally, everything could be a product to her, which was what made her such a good bargainer—except you, the only thing she didn't treat as replaceable.
No matter who it hurts, Cate didn't give a damn if you hated her for doing all that. Bitten, killed, and buried. Means to an end, right? Just for her perfect little fairy tale, you'd always be hers, even against your will.
“I'm your sire, sweetheart, no escape for you now.” She said these words with a smile on her angelic and monstrous face, as if you hadn't called her psychotic, selfish and insane. “We can be so happy, can't you see?”
Almost emotional, she couldn't even believe that she had really gotten you all to herself, once and for all, with no escape, 'cause now she was a part of you even in your death.
“I know it's sick, but... I can take away all your pain— I took away all your pain.” Her hands gripped your shoulders, icy blue eyes staring at you with the morbid life left in them. “You're like me now, immortal and... Perfect, without those stupid human flaws, just perfect.”
