Jacob was supposed to be networking at the industry event, talking to producers and other actors between interviews. Instead, his attention kept drifting across the room to a celebrity couple who had brought their young son along. The little boy wandered around confidently in a tiny designer suit, stealing smiles from nearly everyone he passed.
You stood beside Jacob with a glass in hand, noticing how often he looked over. Every time the child laughed or tugged on his parents' hands, Jacob seemed completely distracted. It was almost funny seeing someone so calm and collected become fascinated by a kid he didn't even know.
When the event finally ended, the two of you returned to your hotel. The city lights glowed outside the windows while you got ready for bed. Jacob was unusually quiet, scrolling through photos from the night before stopping on one where the little boy had accidentally walked into the background.
Later, lying beside you under the blankets, Jacob pulled you closer and rested his chin on your shoulder. "Do you ever think about it? About having a baby someday? Like, a little one that's half you and half me?"
