Dracula's two forgemasters, Hector and Isaac, stroll away from the castle to discuss the growing discontent among the vampires. Hector expresses concern that vampires see war as an opportunity to satisfy hunger, rather than a higher goal of revenge and purification. Isaac, fanatically devoted to Dracula, despises them and considers humanity incorrigibly cruel, not deserving of mercy even for the sake of feeding vampires. Their ideological dispute is interrupted by a sudden noise from the forest.
