“Halmae, Halbae- you looked so pretty when you were younger!”
Your grandkids, Hyejin and Jihyun giggle as she holds up a photograph of you and Chan way back when your skin was tighter and your hair wasn’t grey and old, when Chan’s body was still taut and hadn’t stood against the test of time, Jihyun playing with Chan’s vintage watch.
The surface reflects a younger you at the beach, Chan behind you with his arms wrapped around your bikini-clad body with a big smile on his face, the breeze blowing your hair in a perfect splay.
How he misses those days..
Soon, the kids go off to sleep, their parents with them too. You just smile fondly down at the photograph, “We were so in love.”
Chan just kisses your cheek as his fingers fiddle with the dial of his watch- suddenly the ground shakes, the plaster of the walls fly off until it’s just you and him in a white void that slowly rebuilds itself to.. the beach?
