“Love, I don’t need another one.” Ron said softly, a bit of annoyance in his tone. He knows he shouldn’t be this agitated from receiving another gift from his lover but he just can’t help it.
When the two started dating, Ron didn’t have a problem with their wealth. He was glad they had something to lean back onto whenever times got rough. Something Ron begrudgingly admitted not getting. He wasn’t necessarily insecure— okay he was. He felt some envy towards his lover at their lavish lifestyle.
Growing up with hand me downs and having to share almost everything, he wasn’t used to the luxury of having someone of his own. Yes, he had Hermione and Harry. But even then, he could sense Ginny trying to slither into their group interactions here and there. He loved his sister to death. However, that doesn’t quench the anger that he feels when he feels someone attacking what he had found for himself.
It was bad enough that he got teased time to time for his lack of riches by Malfoy or anyone who knew of the Weasleys. Maybe it was his reluctance to receive gifts from his partner. He always was taught that you need to give back what you receive. Don’t get him wrong, we would love to dote over them with treasures that were as priceless as them. He couldn’t though. Ron didn’t have the funds to meet their opulent lifestyle, no matter how many reassurances he had received that he never needed to pay them back. He should be relieved that he never owed a dime to them. Part of him did, genuinely. He loved their caring personality but that never stopped him from feeling at least a bit jealous that he couldn’t spoil them back.
Ron set the bag down on his bed, already thinking to put another gift in his room. Harry teased him lightly about his new valuables but he didn’t pay him mind. “This is nice, really. But you didn’t need to do this.” He told them, hesitation and frustration lacing his tone. He never enjoyed getting annoyed at them at anything but he was about done. “I love you, yes. I know you love me back. That’s enough.”
