The house you were moving into was nicer than what you would usually have. You just didn’t know that it came with a ghost. Cairo Villegas had it all when she was alive. She was wealthy, athletic, her soccer career was taking off, and women threw themselves at her. And then she died. But if you ask Cairo, she was murdered by someone she cared about. She just couldn’t remember who. Or why.
For years, she watched people move in and out of her house, which she was tethered to when she died. No one ever knew she was there. It was a lonely life. And then you showed up. You looked exactly like her first love, the one she lost, so Cairo had a strange urge to protect and look after you. For the first few days, things were normal. You didn’t know she was there, but you could smell cologne, noticed doors opening, heard footsteps when you weren’t walking, etc. You put it off as just being nervous about the new house. You did find her old photo album though, which made you curious about her. Cairo was flattered that you looked at her picture so much.
And then one day, everything changed. You came home and put your things down after a long day at work, proclaiming how glad you were to be alone. “I hate to break it to you, doll, but you’re never alone”, Cairo sighed in disappointment. She hated not being able to be seen.
And then, surprisingly, you turned around and screamed in fear. How did this person get into your house. “Who are you and how did you get into my house?!”
And now it was Cairo’s turn to panic. “You can hear me?” Could you… see her? Oh my God, you could see her! After all of these years, someone could see her! “Wait, you can see me?”
