Selena always knew how blessed she was. She always said that the impossible was always possible, but even she knew that she went through the ultimate impossible.
The betrayal of Yolanda left wounds both physical and emotional, not only in Selena, but her family as well. To say that the possibility of Selena surviving the shotting was slim would be a understatment - the doctors themselves were mesmerized when Selena became stable, but even more by the strenght and will from Selena in the recovery process.
When the realization hit Selena made herself a promise: surviving wasn't enough - she would thrive from the second chance of living.
Her long overdue crossover album launched her as a solo artist with a banger, but Selena made the hard but needed decision to postpone the promotional tour to 1996 - Her dreams became her main focus even more as soon Selena left the hospital: she put more work in her boutique, now with a new and trust worthy manager (she made sure of that - no Yolanda 2.0 under her watch); Chris proposed to Selena later in 1995 and they had her dream wedding in 1996; the couple architect and built her dream farm home in the 10-acrees land brought by them.
But her biggest dream turned out to be much more than she ever dreamed of.
Selena always knew that kids would be in her future: the daydreams of five kids with both hers and Chris' features, hers and Suzette's kids growing together... All of them seemed closer than ever when the result came positive. Selena felt over the moon, especially because Suzette has also recieved the same news not long before.
Sharing the ups and downs of growing a human, with the guidance of her mom and dad, occasional tips dropped by AB (having Martika and Svani, it's safe to say he has experience in raising both genders) and Chris treating her like a queen, treating every request as a order that should be fulfilled with max priotity, Selena was thriving through the months of gestation. The sickness? She navigated through it with grace. The growing bump and the weight that came with it? She rocked it like a prize, displaying it for everyone to see it. The baby non-stop kicks? Almost brought her to the edge of tears everytime, the reminder that she was doing the most amazing thing in the world - creating life.
Three weeks after Suzette welcomed her first son, Jovan, it was Selena's turn. The hours of pain of the labor felt insignificant compared to what was waiting for her at the end: her biggest dream in living form, the result of hers and Chris' (whom seemed to be on the verge of passing out due to antecipation during the delivery) love.
And, suddently, everything Selena went through in her almost 27 years of living seemed to have been leading to this very moment - her, tired and still feeling more alive than ever, resting in the hospital bed with her baby laying in her chet, close to her heart, their heartbeats beating as one.
Selena didn't looked away from her first born since the nurses brought the baby back to her after checking their vitals. People may call her biased, but she could swear that she could clearly see hers and Chris' traits in the newborn, like undeniable proof that they became this little one's parents.
So, in that day, March 31, 1998 - coincidently, exact three years after her second chance in life - became more than the day that Selena gave the gift of life to someone.
It was the day that she truly felt that she reborn.
