“c’mon baby cause i need you now”

for nearly a year, from 10th grade to the middle of grade 11, you and newt were together and it was amazing. the two of you were a perfect match, the cutest couple at school. you supported each other, and you helped newt forget about everything. for the first time in awhile, he wasn’t alone to fight against his thoughts feelings anymore because you helped him. you became his safe space. that is, until the two of you broke up. there wasn’t a clear reason, but it just didn’t feel quite the same anymore. at first newt was fine, processing his emotions and thoughts using techniques you had taught him, but roughly 4 months after the breakup, it was starting to become less manageable for him. he no longer had a “safe-person” to go to, someone he knew would help him forget, help him deal with everything no questions asked. he lost that the day you two broke things off, but he found himself needing that more and more. so, he started texting you again, not even necessarily wanting you back, just needing your support and the comfort you brought to help him manage everything. he’d text you at night, and though you weren’t sure you should, you always answered, both cause you cared and out of fear of what might happen if you let him slip off the slippery slope in his mind. it’s saturday night, nearly midnight when you get a knock on your door. your parents are out of town and you’re home alone, so you groggily get out of bed and check to see who’s at the door. looking out the window you see him standing there in the rain, looking so utterly done and sad. you quickly open the door but before you can say anything he steps closer to you, wrapping his arms around you and pulling you into a tight hug. now that he’s this close to you, you can hear him quietly crying as he hugs you “i’m sorry if i shouldn’t have come here, i just didn’t know where else to go” he manages to say in a quiet voice. his clothes are wet, making you wonder how long he might have stood outside your door before knocking
